About
The Bhagavad-gita Museum, also known as the Diorama-museum of Bhagavad-gita, is a unique and educational art museum located in Culver City, California. Established in 1977, the museum is dedicated to illustrating the philosophy of the Bhagavad-gita, a sacred Indian literary classic. The museum features eleven stunningly sculptured life-size dioramas that combine India’s ancient doll-making artistry and yogic wisdom with America’s modern technology. The dioramas lead visitors through the story of the Bhagavad-gita, with each one featuring talking clay robots that provide their unique perspective on the teachings. The museum offers an immersive and educational experience, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the Bhagavad-gita’s philosophy and its significance.
The museum’s exhibits are constructed from traditional Indian doll-making materials such as bamboo, rice straw, various clays, and rice husk, using traditional construction, finishing, and dressing techniques. The dioramas are almost life-sized and have been refurbished over the years without being modernized. The museum was featured by LA Weekly in 2011 as one of the “Best of L.A. Arts & Entertainment” and in 2012 as one of “10 Oddball L.A. Museums Worth Seeing.” It has also been described as “fascinating and educational” by CBS Los Angeles.
The Bhagavad-gita Museum offers various admission options, including general admission for a 45-minute visit, a guided tour for a 60-minute experience, and “The Krishna Experience” for a 90-minute immersive journey. The museum provides an opportunity for visitors to explore and engage with the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad-gita through its unique and captivating artistic presentations.
